Sida cordifolia well known in India as Bala, is a weed that grows wild in wastelands and along roadsides. They are found throughout the tropical and sub-tropical plains all over India and Srilanka. The herb is an annual and grows up to 30cms. The plant though seasonal, is available throughout the year, and is especially luxuriant during the months of October to December.

Bala is a perennial subshrub of the mallow family Malvaceae native to India. It has naturalized throughout the world, and is considered an invasive weed in Africa, Australia, the southern United States, Hawaiian Islands, New Guinea, and French Polynesia.

Recommended Uses:
It is very effective as medicated oil. The oils are used topically to massage the sore muscles, sore joints in arthritis and rheumatism, in sciatica and neuritis of legs.

Height: 50 to 200 cm (20 to 79 in) tall
Flower Color: Yellow / Light Orange

Uses: As a weed, it invades cultivated and overgrazed fields, competing with more desired species and contaminating hay.

Other Names: country mallow, heart-leaf sida, flannel weed


Growing Instructions:

Soak seeds for 24 hours and scarify. Sow seeds in pots or directly 1cm deep in full to partial sun. Keep soil moist. Germination may take anywhere from 5-14 days up to 3 months. Soil should be well draining. Space plants 2 feet apart. Grown as perennial in tropical and annual in temperate climates.
