An Italian Heirloom that made its way to the US a century ago by the hands of immigrants. Calabrese broccoli is grown for the productive side shoots that grow tender smaller heads. It produces a central head 5-8” wide and is very tolerant of sandy soils. For best flavor and least bitterness grow in cool wet seasons or irrigate well when cool season is dry.
Calabrese green sprouting broccoli, is a hardy and disease resistant, making it a great staple to have in any vegetable garden. This variety produces dark green heads which have a slight blue hue, and will yield a good harvest by the end of the season. The buds and stalks, are also edible and sometimes young leaves of the plants are used as a micro green.

Growing Instructions:
Start 4-6 weeks before last frost date or as a fall crop to be in the ground by early October. Grow until freeze or summer heat. Sow seeds ¼” deep in keep moist until germination in 10-21 days, transplant to 4” pot when two sets of true leaves present. Harden to sun and plant in full sun rich well-draining location after danger of frost or summer passed. Space plants 1-2’ apart.
Brassica crops all grow best in partial-shade, in firm, fertile soil. Avoid shallow, sandy soils, and exposed sites, plant should be evenly watered, and the soil should be well draining.
