This variety of zucchini produces smooth fruit between 6 and 8 inches, similar to many of the more popular types of summer squash. However, the dark green cultivar tends to be ready for harvest a bit sooner than other zucchini, that combined with vigorous growth and a high yield makes this a sure winner.

Direct sow for best results, if you are starting indoors to get a head start biodegradable pots are recommended. Plant after several weeks after the threat of frost has passed, planting seeds 1” deep, using 2-3 seeds per mound, spacing rows out 6’-8’ giving plenty of room for the vines to spread. Seeds should be kept moist until germination, and then thinned to a couple seedlings per mound once the leaves start to reach about 3”. The squash will be ready for harvest when the rind is hard, and not easily dent-able with your fingernail. Cut the stem (opposed to breaking it off) leaving an inch or two attached – keeping the fruit whole and no opening for infection or rotting. Bruising can spoil the squash, otherwise it can be stored for months in a cool dry place.
